Diehard fan calls for FMSA President’s resignation

A staunch Nadi Muslim football fan called Javid Ahmed to immediately stand down as president of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association.

The call stems after Nadi and Sabeto teams were suspended for manipulating match results in the Fiji Muslim Inter District Championship during the Easter long weekend in Nadroga.

Faheem Pokar, who took to the O Nandi Ko Fans Club Viber group to vent his displeasure, said Javid has misrepresented himself and is not fit to lead the organization.

“Resign that is all to it,” he said.

Pokar said FMSA must provide evidence that Nadi and Sabeto played to a fix, 3-3 to eliminate Maigania from qualifying for the quarterfinals.

“There was no match fix, it was all cooked up,” he said.

“Sabeto drew 1-1 against Maigania, Nadi drew 0-0 against Maigania and Nadi drew 3-3 against Sabeto.

“If Nadi-Sabeto game 3-3 draw is a fix, does one assume Sabeto against Maigania and Nadi against Maigania was also fixed?

“How do you justify these equations?.”

Pokar said with a two-way tie between Nadi and Sabeto, Nadi had qualified for the quarterfinal on a toss and went on to beat Rewa 3-0.

He learned that while the Nadi-Rewa game was underway, Rewa lodged a protest on the behest of insiders and it is only then the disciplinary committee meeting reconvened to suspend both Nadi and Sabeto.

In a statement, FMSA said it was determined that both teams – Nadi and Sabeto breached the mental principles of integrity, fair play, and sportsmanship as outlined in the FMSA code of Conduct.

‘As a result, a collective decision has been reached that both teams have been disqualified from the remainder of the competition, with immediate effect’.

Pokar refutes any breach claims, adding Maigania had been the blowtorch to the whole fix saga and FMSA simply played it along.

“What proof does FMSA have on the fix, did money change hands, was someone caught in the act?

“We live in a tech-savvy world. Were there any conversation records between the deal brokers? We need to ask all these questions.”

Pokar is also calling on the Fiji Muslim League to step in and clean up the FMSA.

“We would like to ask the relevant authorities to dissolve the current FMSA executives, and disciplinary committee and appoint an interim.

“We have full faith in our leaders, the national branch to uphold the integrity and leadership.”
