Football’s best times

Football’s best times

OUR football has a marked history like no other.

We have had great teams, amazing footballers, learned coaches and management.

There was a period where the beautiful game was just as lovely.

It was during the 1990s-2000s, that our game was exposed, rivalries were fierce, and championships were at their best.

Power past

The tilt is the powering past, where adroit skills, tactics, and techniques was stretched field to field.

It all accentuated when competitive teams took their football seriously under the governing heavyweights who had great football minds.

Nostalgia is obvious we look back more fondly at the past then the recent present and idlise it and have stronger feelings now then we may of back then.

Teams

With Tanoa FC, Flagstaff FC, Western Stars, Marist St. Columbus, and districts Ba, Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Tailevu/Naitasiri, one could only imagine the standard on offer.

Parks

If only Swanguard Stadium, Churchill Park, Hillcrest Oval, Burnaby Lake, South Surrey Oval and Queens Park could spare a thought, history would be revealed.

These greens never saw a dull moment for football activities.

Fanfare galore

Every league game to major tournaments, IDC and BOG were the occasions of much fanfare, camaraderie and support at a different level.

Footballers, standout 50

With the ingrained warriors, like Asad Ali, Kevin Wong, Bobby Ali, Naushad Khan, Saten Singh, Atma Sharma, Chandu Sharma, Rishi Sharma, Pramod Chauhan, Raj Lal, Lawerance Singh, Sunny Khan, Raj Sharma, Mohammed Buksh, Sanjay Narayan, Ashad Ali, Mikey Singh, Bobby Izaz, Alfred Nagur, Joey Sen, Taufik Khan, Jas Singh, Neil Adrakar, Ronald Singh, Salesh Mishra, Patrick Krishna Jnr, Subarmani Reddy, Sanjesh Singh, Macho Singh, Arun Sharma, Ivor Evans, Sunny Ali, Kamal Sahib, Christopher Lochan, Shamil Sharif, Quddous Hussein, Mohammed Yusuf, Patrick Krishna Snr, Don Sahim, Robin Gopal, Shaukat Ali, Munesh Turbo, Vishwa Sharma, Selwin Munian, Alvin Prasad, Vinny Sharma, Nabi Rahman, Richard Singh, Ritesh Mishra and Paul Nair football was at its best.

These footballers truly transcended the sport and if these weren’t the game, who were?
