USA Sangam has allowed women footballers to play in men’s competition in next weekend’s USA Sangam Convention tournament in Seattle, Washington.
In a landmark decision on Wednesday, the USAS unanimously announced the change in its eligibility rules.
USA Sangam head coach Naveen Kumar said the organization believes in equality and inclusiveness.
“It’s a start,” he said.
“Breaking barriers.
“We need to think outside the box.”
Kumar said women’s football is huge in the USA, playing high-level football.
“This should allow for more women’s participation in men’s games in the future.
“USA Sangam deserves praise.”
Trina, the first woman to play in men’s competition
Trina Davis will become the first woman to play in the men’s team.
Trina’s inclusion underlines the growing recognition of women’s football by a cultural organization.
“It’s always a first. Trina is a quality footballer who played professional football in Israeli club ASA Tel Aviv.”
She also played for Puerto Rico Sol FC in the top-tier competition Superior Femenino de la Liga Puerto Rico.
Trina plays summer football for Olympia FC, in the USL League.
Sacramento Sangam has signed the forward.
