Surrey Stars quiet ahead of Jayden-Jordan Memorial Cup

THE Surrey Stars are keeping a low profile as they prepare to defend their title at this weekend’s Jayden-Jordan Memorial Cup tournament.

The Stars lifted the trophy last year with a commanding 3–1 win over Rewa and are quietly optimistic about their chances in this year’s competition.

Manager Iqbal Mohammed said the squad is in good shape but acknowledged the stiff competition they expect to face.

“We won it last year, but football is about the open field, teamwork, and a little bit of luck,” said Iqbal.

In the spirit of the event, Iqbal called on all participating teams to show integrity on and off the field.

“Out of respect for Jayden and Jordan, I urge all teams to play hard, play fair, and show respect to the family throughout the tournament.”

“The tournament is more than just football — it’s a heartfelt memory celebration.”

Iqbal described the weekend as a “fiesta,” with free food, refreshments, and children’s activities adding to the carnival-like atmosphere.

“The hosts deserve our utmost respect for their efforts in making this a fun and meaningful event,” he added.

A total of eight teams have been drawn into two pools, and the tournament offers $2500 in prize money, making it one of the more anticipated local football events of the year.
