THE Lloyd Farebrother Cup is making its proud rounds in Nausori, home of the 2025 IDC champions, Rewa.
Rewa’s pulsating 1-0 victory over Ba at Govind Park’s 4R Stadium has set off a wave of jubilation across the district.
Football is hope, and hope is contagious.
After a 15-year wait, the Delta Tigers’ triumph has reignited scenes of joy, pride, and unity.
From homes to schools, from businesses to street corners, everyone wants a glimpse of the coveted trophy, a gleaming symbol of Rewa’s resilience, passion, and footballing spirit reborn.
The last time Rewa won at Govind Park was in 1955, when they edged Lautoka 3-2, marking a historic victory on Ba’s home turf.
The latest triumph is equally momentous, marking Rewa as the first team to win the IDC at the all-new 4R Stadium.
During the grand finale, Rewa diehards sang and danced with unbridled joy, their chants drowning out a sea of black-clad Ba supporters, who were oozing with confidence to win the championship at the new 4R Stadium at Govind Park.
Patrick Joseph coolly slotted home a 76th-minute penalty after Rewa’s Asivorosi Rabo was brought down in the box by Peceli Sukabula.
Rewa has deferred its official celebration to the end of the year.
President Nazeel Buksh said the team’s focus remains on upcoming commitments, with players engaged in both district and national duties.
“Firstly, we’re having the Futsal IDC this weekend,” Buksh said. “After that, a few players will be leaving for New Zealand for the NZFFIDC.”
When the team returns, there’s the MSG Cup and the Prime Minister’s Cup in PNG.
“After that, within three days, there’s the Pacific Cup in Auckland. The NCC kicks off in the first week of December and only then will we have some breathing space.”
For now, the trophy does the talking, travelling proudly through Nausori and reminding everyone that Rewa football is back where it belongs.
