KOROVOTU Primary School in Nadi has received a major boost with a $210,000 donation that has funded the construction of seven new classrooms.
The contribution was made by KEEP Foundation USA, of which Ranjlene Govind Pressley is director.
She is the daughter of a former Korovuto Primary School teacher.
Her father, Shiu Govind, taught at Korovuto Primary School from 1965 to 1969, making the donation deeply personal and significant.
Now based in the United States, Mrs Pressley will return to Fiji to join family members, friends, former colleagues and school officials for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new classroom wing on February 20, 2026.
The milestone also honours the legacy of her grandfather, Shiu Sharan Kanhai, an alumnus of the school, and his brother, Shiu Narayan Kanhai.
Both men were actively involved in the school and wider community before serving as respected members of Fiji’s House of Representatives from 1977 to 1982.
“This joyous occasion pays tribute to the remarkable legacy of my grandfather and grand-uncle, whose tireless efforts in education and community development have left a lasting impact,” Mrs Pressley said.
“As an alumna, and with my father’s strong connection to the school, this moment holds even greater significance for our family,” she added.
“Through our family’s contribution of $210,000 Fijian dollars, we are proud to have made possible the construction of seven classrooms that will empower future generations to learn and thrive.”
Mrs Pressley holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Wisconsin–Madison.
She said the gathering of families, educators and community members at the ceremony would reflect the power of shared commitment and collective progress in advancing education.
