The Ba, Fiji-born registered nurse provides thousands of patients with medical care in one of British Columbia, Canada’s busiest emergency rooms.

Vivacious and compassionate, as she has earned a reputation to brighten the darkest moments for patients and their families.

Gosai is working in the fast-paced environment of emergency medicine and it is about assessing injuries, treats life-threatening conditions and working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide urgent care.

“My primary responsibilities include performing rapid triage, stabilizing critically ill patients, administering acute medical treatments and coordinating care with the emergency team,” Gosai said.

Despite the pressure that comes with the job, she approaches every patient with empathy and professionalism.

Those who know or work with her say her warm personality reflects the hospitality and kindness Fijians are known for.

Fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi, Gosai is also able to bridge communication gaps for many patients.

For those who speak neither language, she finds other ways to communicate.

“Language gestures, and sometimes I piece words together. We always find a way to understand each other,” she said with a smile.

Having lived in Canada for the past 25 years, Gosai says the country has provided countless opportunities for personal and professional growth.

“Canada is a country of endless possibilities and opportunities. Those values are part of the core fabric of this country,” she said.

Gosai completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) at Vancouver Community College, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to caring for others.

She is married to Ravi Gosai, a registered nurse and they work at the Surrey Memorial Hospital.

The couple have three children, Ria, Riti and Sahil Gosai.
