FOOTBALL has a unique way of bringing players together, regardless of where they live or which club they represent.
Peter Ravitasai, Shahil Khan and Rahul Padiyachi are a perfect example.
The trio represent different clubs in their respective leagues.
Ravitasai plays for Kingborough Lions in Australia’s National Premier Leagues (NPL), and Padiyachi turns out for International FC in the Ontario Premier League in Canada.
At the same time, Khan represents Sabeto FC in Vancouver’s Fijian league.
They represent the USA All Stars at the Pacific Community Cup, an annual tournament involving teams from Fiji, Australia and New Zealand.
This weekend Ravitasai and Padiyachi have teamed up for California FC, for the Dulari Cup in Surrey, British Columbia.
The friends are determined to help their sides lift the trophy in Fijian community football in Canada.
Peter, who is originally from England finds Canada welcoming as it’s his first trip to the country.
“It’s my first time in Canada, and everyone I’ve met has been so welcoming, it’s my first time playing in the Dulari cup, the atmosphere and vibe, have been enjoyable to experience.”
The footballer may face each other and when opportunity presents and friendship will hold for 90 minutes on the field.
“We may meet after the elimination games, time is the master,” said Khan.
And when the match ends, the friendship remains and that is the beauty about football.
