Bula FC made history but lost moment

THERE is no denying that Bula FC needed the home coming win, not just for the points, but to reassure its supporters that the team is more than just another name in the OFC Pro League.

This is a side that wants to be seen as a fierce competitor, one capable with time, of challenging for top honours.

Their hard-fought 1–0 victory over Hekari United at Ba’s 4R Stadium should have been a moment defined by progress, belief, and a clear statement of intent.

Adam Supyk etched his name into history as the first footballer to score for Bula FC in a home game, doing so in front of a raucous crowd.

Instead, the narrative drifted.

What stood out to many was not just the result, but the manner in which the occasion unfolded.

Ba Football Association, under president Praneel Dayal, appeared to turn the spotlight onto itself.

The grand entry, full of pomp and pageantry, felt less like an act of support for Fiji’s first professional club and more like a display designed to reinforce its own presence.

But support does not need a stage; it needs sincerity.

Social media has since been abuzz, with fans expressing that while Ba hosted Round 5 of the OFC Professional League, the occasion never truly felt like a shared celebration of football.

There is a growing sense that moments like these should belong to the supporters the very people who have backed Bula FC from the beginning.

Bula FC is not a district team, it is the country’s first professional football club.

That distinction matters, and it must be respected by all stakeholders.

There is always a time and place for ceremony and recognition, but there is also a need to understand priority.

Sunday was meant to be about Bula FC.

And after such a significant victory, there was every reason for it to feel that way.

Because while history will record the result, people will remember how the moment was lost.
