four time Hong Kong 7s champion, FijiFIJI Airways 7s history making Cathay Pacific/ Hong Kong Sevens title serves as the best opportunity for the nation to win its first Commonwealth Gold in Australia.

And with the quadruple championship safely tucked away, the side is looking forward to Gold Coast with a lot of optimism.

Fiji has never stamped its mark at the Commonwealth Games as gold medal winners, though have twice won the silver medal in 1998-2002 and bronze in 2006.

They also have in their closet the 2016 Rio Olympic gold, 1997- 2005 Rugby World Cup and the 2005-2006 and the back to back 2014-2015,2015-2016 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The chase for the elusive glittery piece of hardware that Fiji so deserves will be up for contention starting on Saturday against Sri Lanka and since the team has finally broken the years of jinx by winning its first ever back to back title, Vancouver and the Hong Kong Sevens, it could well be a sign of good fortune to come in the way of gold medal.

The fervent will rally behind captain Seremaia Tuwai and the finest to end the Commonwealth Games drought.

South Africa, the current HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series leaders won the gold in 2014, they will be at full strength at Gold Coast after having fielded a second-string side last week in the hopes of retaining the gold.

England, Australia and New Zealand were the other teams that saved their best for the Commonwealth Games.

Nothing beats the euphoria of winning the fourth Hong Kong Sevens championship, a record that has forever been scripted in the history books but adding that Commonwealth Games gold to the bucket list would be a dream come true for the governance, the players, coaching staff and the nation.
