20 Pacific Island students on tourRADIO S1 host and University of the South Pacific student Atishwar Chand is among 20 Pacific Island students who are in Japan on a cultural exchange program.

Chand, who gained fame for his presentation trait is on a 9-day trip that is funded by the Government of Japan and coordinated by University of the South Pacific and Japan Overseas Cooperative Association (JOCA).

“It’s a cultural program trip, whereby students from Pacific Island come to share their lifestyles and diverse cultural values with the people of Japan”, he said.

“The main theme for the group is environment and energy”.

The group had the opportunity to live with the home-stay family and learn about the unique cultural values, food and experience the daily chores on Miyakojima Island.

“We even got ourselves a cooking lesson, it was fun, and the food is as always awesome, with a difference”.

Chand said Japan is a country that thrives on the core values of respect, acceptance and is environmentally friendly.

“Japan is about respect, it has the cutting-edge technology and is about conservation of energy and environmental focused”.

Chand says he plans to use some of the methods of the energy conservation techniques in Fiji.

The group, he says shared artifacts and symbolic gifts.
