IT’S one game that Fiji Airways Fijian men’s team would’ve loved to take a pass on.
And that is Against New Zealand.
But the luck of the draw have them yet again lock horns with their nemesis in the cup- quarterfinal of the Canada Sevens, this after finishing second to Samao, who topped Pool B.
New Zealand seem to have Fiji’s number, they beat coach Gareth Baber’s side 36-14 in the cup semifinal of the Sydney Sevens and at the USA Sevens in Las Vegas last weekend, where they narrowly edged Fiji 19-14 in the cup quarterfinal.
The reigning Canada Sevens champions will have to bring their best game against a team that seems to find a way to beat them on a dime
Baber’s men are hurting, captain Kaliono Nasoko limped out against Canada with a suspected hamstring contusion.
He set out the Samoa game, Terio Veilawa and Aminiasi Tuimaba also sustained heavy knocks on their ankles and they’re listed as concerns.
“We have a few players that sustained injuries”, he said.
“We will evaluate the players overnight and make a decision ahead of the game tomorrow”
Fiji plays second cup-quarter final at 11.30.
