Football academy for Fiji

A PRIVATELY funded football academy is being negotiated for setup in the country.

The Elite Football Development Group (EFDG) Canada, made up of former Major League footballers is in the early stages of discussions with a Fijian partner, who is also former national footballer.

EFDG director, Trevor Wilson said the academy will be a state of art business model.

“We plan to operate much like soccer academies across the world, privately train and evaluate the next generation of footballers, who will soon carry the district and nation’s lofty aspirations. And to get that done, we sell goods to paying customers”.

“It’s all business, and that’s how we plan to operate where everyone involved gets rewarded”.

Wilson said the academy will house, train, develop and provide tryouts for players world over.

“With the gamut of business models, agreements between parents, consent and the legal frame is top priority.

“We are all about fair representation”.

He said academy coaches will identify, scout and organize the development programs for the players young as 12 years, and up to 20 years.

Wilson added that due to ongoing Covid -19 pandemic negotiations were put on hold but has resumed and EFDG is optimistic about the academy in the country.
