USA ready for Sangam tournament

THE USA Sangam Masters football team is for the first time participating in the Sangam Convention tournament in Ba.

And while the team will give its all during the 99th edition of the tournament, their vision extends beyond the football field.

Head coach Naveen Kumar said the team will reach out to care homes and old age facilities in the Nadi, Lautoka and Ba corridor.

“We are here to participate in the Sangam tournament for the first time, but our mission extends beyond the football field,” said Kumar, the former Lautoka and national team footballer.

“We owe our roots a gratitude, our outreach is out of respect and help in the noble ways.

“We want to inspire the next generation and emphasize the importance of giving back, supporting those less fortunate, and strengthening the Sangam spirit.”

Kumar said the executive body has also planned a series of initiatives in Fiji, aiming to  leave a lasting impact beyond the competition.

“Through mentorship programs, youth engagement, and cultural exchanges, the team seeks to use football as a platform for unity, growth, and meaningful change.”

Debut tournament

Kumar said as the first-year team, the players are extremely excited to feature in a historic tournament.

“Our players are upbeat, obviously there’s a lot of excitement and with it comes the wrinkles, we just need to adapt to the situation and give our best,” Kumar said.

USA Masters is drawn against Queensland-Brisbane, Waikato NZ and Nadi Masters, with the opening game against Queensland-Brisbane on Thursday at the FFA Academy grounds.
