Bula FC down Auckland 2–1 in style

BULA FC’s intensity and collective effort powered them to a 2–1 win over Auckland FC in Round 5 of the OFC Pro League at 4R Stadium.

Just days after a 2–0 loss to South Melbourne, the side responded with a composed and determined performance to climb to third place on 21 points.

They will need to hold that position to secure direct qualification to the semi-finals.

Captain Roy Krishna lit up the match with blistering pace, slicing past three Auckland FC defenders to net his second goal for the side. The move was sparked by Zacariah Harang, who won possession in midfield and released Krishna into a foot race.

Sterling Vasconcellos opened the scoring, finishing off a well-executed set piece orchestrated by Yuta Konagaya.

Despite the win, there is little room for complacency, with the playoff race set to intensify in the coming rounds.

The result lifts Bula FC to 21 points on the table, confirming a top-four finish and a place in the Leaders Group, where they are set to face Auckland FC again in May.

Following Round 5 in Fiji, the competition splits into two pools, with the top four forming the Leaders Group and the bottom four entering the Challengers Group.

Fan turnout raises concern

With the Fiji leg now complete for Bula FC, questions remain over the low turnout of supporters.

The “Furnace” tag, meant to reflect Ba’s passionate home backing, has yet to fully translate into consistent crowd support.

The side can draw encouragement from the strong backing received during Round 4 in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

With Round 6 scheduled in New Zealand, Bula FC may need to actively rally supporter presence to maintain that edge away from home.
