A former administrator of the Fijian Soccer League of Greater Vancouver (FSLGV) has raised concerns over the decision to host the Fiji FA Legends Awards in Vancouver.
Mohammed Faroon, while expressing respect for his former organisation, suggested there may be some overlap in roles particularly in areas that traditionally fall under the responsibility of the national governing body.
He noted that the recognition and induction of former national team players is generally understood to be a function of the Fiji Football Association, and that this responsibility might be best retained within that framework.
“It may be worth reflecting on whether the role of the league, which is closely aligned to local competition, extends to hosting inductions for former footballers — or whether this is an area that could remain with Fiji FA,” Faroon said.
Faroon indicated he had been informed that Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, chief executive Mohammed Yusuf, Bula FC chairman Marc McElarth, and vice-president Ewdin Chand are expected to be in Vancouver for a FIFA World Cup-related engagement, during which the inductions are also scheduled to take place.
“There may also be some questions around how the May 1 awards event is being positioned, including the involvement of FSLGV and the structure of the ticketing,” he added.
The former secretary, who served in the role for 12 years, said FSLGV should remain focused on its core responsibilities before extending support elsewhere.
“The league could benefit from continuing to recognise its own players and administrators, particularly those who have contributed directly to the development of the local competition and the Fijian football community in Vancouver,” Faroon added.
