COMBINE Brothers coach Jitendar Desi believes his side played the better football in the Dulari Cup final and deserved to lift the championship despite falling short.
The USA-based side went down 2-1 to Edmonton Rangers in the extra time of a thrilling final at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, British Columbia, over the weekend.
Rangers won the championship back to back, 2025/2026 editions.
Desi said his players dominated large periods of the contest and were unfortunate not to come away with the title.
“We were a far better team tactically and technically,” he said.
Desi praised his players for their commitment throughout the tournament, saying they executed the game plan well but were unable to capitalize on the chances they created.
He said despite the heartbreaking defeat, the performance in the final showed the quality within the Combine Brothers squad and expressed confidence the team would come back stronger in future editions of the Dulari Cup.
“We showed character and confidence, we played structured football,” he said.
Desi said injuries left the team with a think bench but even player knew their role and stepped up when needed.
“Some of the players have had a their fathers, uncles and cousins represent Combine Brothers.”
“Now it’s the young generation that is playing and it just goes to show what football means to players.”
Desi said all the more credit goes to Edmonton Rangers for scoring when it mattered for the championship.
“It all came down to the penalty kick, for the championship win.”
