MOHAMMED Buksh, who was Richmond Rangers mainstay during its glory days has passed away.
He was 67.
Nicknamed ‘Moe’, he was known for his commanding midfield play and widely recognised as one of the best players in the game’s history.
He was part of the all conquering Richmond Rangers team that won a number of titles, including 8 North American Fijian Soccer Association championship between 1984-2000.
Tributes transcended Moe’s mystique as a soccer player, touching on his persona as a symbol of humble and greatness.
Chandra Sharma, Moe’s lifelong friend and a teammate on the Richmond Rangers team described him as a talented footballer, a doting father and husband.
He said Moe had an affinity with club since its inception in 1976, he was also a founding member.
“A leader and a role model.”
“Moe was more than just a great player, an even greater human being.
“A passionate footballer and at his age he was very much active playing the sport he adored.”
Moe would often check up on old Richmond Rangers teammates, encouraging them to come out for a pickup game.
“It is how much he loved football.
“Memories of a lifetime. Those who knew are mourning the loss of not just a footballer but a comrade,” added Sharma.
Ronald Singh, who played alongside Moe, in the NAFSA tournament said, Mo was an artist at work, he had great vision and superb skills.
“Moe was marvelled on the pitch, those us who played with or against know of his brilliance. Rest in Peace, champ.”
