Mitlesh’s surprise birthday present

MITLESH Swamy is a huge Rugby Sevens fan.

And since his parents are Fijians, his love for the Fiji sevens team is deeply rooted in him.

Swamy who turned 11 years old yesterday (Friday), got a surprise birthday present meeting his heroes on arrival at the Vancouver Airport.

“It was Mitleshs’ birthday and we just wanted to surprise him by bringing him to the airport to meet the players,” said mother Avleen Swamy.

The Swamy’s live in Abbotsford, British Columbia, some three hours from the airport, they cut through the rush hour traffic to get to the Vancouver International Airport.

Mitlesh was told that they were coming to receive a guest.

“He did not know he was going to meet the team yesterday, his dad and I surprised him.

“He felt excited, emotional, shocked and surprised that we made him meet his idol team.”

Mitlesh has been following the Fiji men’s sevens team since he was 6 years old.

His interest grew by the year that he took the sport seriously now he plays in the Abbotsford U12 mini team.

Mitlesh owes his interest in the sport to his father, Pritesh Swamy, who is an ardent fan of the Fiji sevens team.

The players from both the men’s and women’s teams autographed a jersey and a ball for the youngster.

“We brought a Fiji men’s jersey and a ball with us, Mitlesh wasn’t aware of it, he was pleasantly surprised.

“Mitlesh is super happy with the autograph and shocked with what he describes as his best birthday present,” said Avleen.
