THE EX Fiji Football Reps Association is in dire need of financial assistance.
President John Grey made the public appeal through social media Facebook.
He said the association is in financial stress and funds raised would provide former footballers a livelihood, medical help, and necessary supplies.
“These men are now old, forgotten, desperate, retired, in ill-health, mostly unemployed and have daily needs”.
Grey said the former footballers were part of a breed who were passion driven and made enormous sacrifices to achieve the goals of the supporters and districts in Fiji.
“We were selected to serve our country and we succeeded at various levels”.
Grey said while the EFFRA members have created financial options to support its members, the latest appeal goes out to the fans of the former national football heroes, who are now the legends of the sport.
“Recently, George Koi, the captain of the 1977 national football team that beat Australia 1-0, suffered a heart attack and following his discharge from the hospital he faced breathing problems”.
“EFFRA reached out to its members to fund an oxygen cylinder to keep George alive. We have funded the 1st cylinder at close to $1200. More help is needed”.
EFFRA was formed in 2020, on the behest of Nemani Waka, the former national team footballer of the 70s.
Grey made special mention of Taito Bula, who is bedridden in Ba, and Nemani Waka, Silvester Joseph, Tevita Delana, John Lal and Brian Simmons who all are unwell overseas.
